Boot Lake

Location:

These lakes are located west of Square Lake in May Township along Co Rd. 55 (Norell Ave. N.) 

Species Present:

Northern Pike: lower than average abundance, smaller than average size.
Largemouth Bass: lower than average abundance, smaller than average size.
Black Crappie: higher than average abundance, smaller than average size.
Pumpkinseed: higher than average abundance, larger than average size.
Bullhead species: average abundance, average size.
 

Boat Access:

The un-improved access to E. Boot off the shoulder of Norell Ave. North has been closed and posted "no boat launching". The shoulder of the road is posted "No Parking". There is no way to launch a boat from a trailer on West Boot; the road shoulder is too steep. 

Shore Fishing:

Anglers do fish from Norell Ave, but you must park some distance away and walk back to the lake.  Be careful of traffic and overhead wires. 

Management Plans:

  1. No current active management.

Comments:

These lakes suffer occasional winterkill. As a result, the fish population varies greatly. These lakes are unusual in than no Bluegill, only Pumpkinseed, were sampled in the last assessment. Pumpkinseed present were larger than average and very plump. Crappie population fluctuate greatly, some years fishing for Crappie can be very good.
