OHM Safety Training Requirements

OHM Safety Training Minnesota CertifiedOHM Operators under 16 years old are required to have an OHM Certificate to operate on public lands, frozen waters, and state or grant-in-aid trails in Minnesota.

The OHM certification can be obtained by completing the ATV online course. The following options are available. Note, there is NO required hands-on component to the OHM certification.

Ages 11 and older

  • MN ATV Rider’s Safety Class online at:

Alternate OHM safety training

DirtBike School is a fun, one-day, hands-on training session available to anyone six years old or above. At approved training sites, MSF certified DBS Coaches will teach you basic riding skills and responsible riding practices, including risk management and environmental awareness

Ages 10 and under

  • Complete the MN DNR OHM Safety CD and receive your Certificate. To receive the free OHM Safety CD, please contact the DNR Information Center toll free at 1-888-646-6367. Instructions for completing the certification class and paying for your course are on the CD.
