•Welsh Lake State Forest has two great recreational facilities: Heartland State Trail and Leech Lake.

• Heartland State Trail runs through on the west side of the state forest and is known for being the first rail-to-trail project in the country.

• Leech Lake is known for its walleye, muskie, largemouth bass, black crappie, and bluegill fishing.

• The toughest part of this state forest is choosing what you want to do.

• There are no campgrounds within the forest. However, camping is available at Paul Bunyan and Bowstring state forests.

Visitor Alert:

Due to wet and warm conditions, forest roads and trails are deteriorating rapidly this spring. Many roads and trails are not firm enough to support vehicle traffic without being damaged. The temporary closures could remain in effect until sometime in May, depending on weather conditions. Note: not all roads and trails in a particular forest may be closed. Check the forest roads closures and OHV trail closures web pages before venturing out. Signs may be posted before web pages are updated. Obey all signs.
