A Whirlwind of Leaves: November 6, 2008

A deep area of low pressure was centered over West Central Minnesota around noon. A wedge of cold dry air wrapping around the low reached the Twin Cities around noon. This, combined with a frontal passage was marked by a strong, but brief gust of wind. The highest wind gust reported in the Twin Cities metro area was 60 mph at the St. Paul Airport, just east of downtown St. Paul. There were scattered reports of damage in eastern and southeastern Minnesota. In addition to the wind, the temperature dropped seven degrees in about 30 minutes at the U of M St. Paul Campus Climate Observatory from roughly 11am to 11:30am.
