•Golden Anniversary State Forest is located in southern Itasca County about eight miles southeast of Grand Rapids. The forest can be reached by following the Great River Road (Itasca Highway 3) southeast from Grand Rapids. If you are coming from the Twin Cities on State Highway 65, take State Highway 200 to the Great River Road and proceed northwest.
•There are two trail systems in the forest, River Road Unit Ski Trail (6.2 km loop) and Cowhorn Lake Ski Touring and Hiking Trail (12.6 km loop). Both trails are rated beginner to intermediate, and are excellent for family outings in the summer and winter. Refer to the state forest map for more details.
Due to wet and warm conditions, forest roads and trails are deteriorating rapidly this spring. Many roads and trails are not firm enough to support vehicle traffic without being damaged. The temporary closures could remain in effect until sometime in May, depending on weather conditions. Note: not all roads and trails in a particular forest may be closed. Check the forest roads closures and OHV trail closures web pages before venturing out. Signs may be posted before web pages are updated. Obey all signs.
