Social Media Community Terms of Use

The purpose of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ official social media accounts is to provide information about the DNR and the programs, services, and products we provide. Our social media accounts are governed by the general rules of respectful civil discourse. The DNR social media team monitors official DNR accounts but is not responsible for content generated by users. The DNR requires users who choose to communicate on the DNR’s official social media accounts to adhere to the community terms of use. 
As used herein, “Post(s)” includes, but is not limited to, user-generated content such as comments, questions, messages, and images.

Limited Public Forum

The DNR’s official social media accounts are limited public forums. Posts on an official social media account must be on topic. Posts that are off topic will be hidden or removed by the DNR.
The DNR does not allow content that:

  1. Is off-topic or irrelevant to the original content published
  2. Is known to be false, misleading or fraudulent
  3. Is profane, obscene, sexually explicit, defamatory, libelous, threatening, abusive, harassing or, incites or promotes violence or illegal activity
  4. Promotes, endorses or opposes campaign activities for elected office
  5. Communicates personally identifiable information of any person, including but not limited to home address, home or cell phone number, or personal email address
  6. Contains information that could reasonably compromise individual or public safety
  7. Promotes, fosters, or perpetuates harassment or discrimination on the basis of any legally protected class of persons under federal and state laws
  8. Solicits, promotes, or advertises a business or product, or proposes a commercial transaction
  9. Infringes on patents, copyrights, trade secrets or trademarks
By participating on any of the DNR social media accounts, you are agreeing to abide by these community terms of use. We reserve the right to hide, remove or ignore posts that violate these community terms. Repeated or egregious violations of these terms may result in the user being blocked from DNR’s social media accounts.  These community terms of use are subject to amendment or modification at any time.

Disclaimers

The DNR monitors its official social media accounts during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. The DNR is not responsible for user-generated content on its official social media accounts. The views and opinions expressed in user-generated content are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the DNR. The inclusion of any external content or comments on the DNR’s official social media accounts, or following, retweeting, or reposting by the DNR does not imply endorsement of or agreement by the DNR, nor does this reflect the opinions or policies of the DNR. Individuals are responsible for all comments, questions, or messages that they provide.  The DNR is not liable for claims made in advertisements, videos, promoted content, or comments from any external websites or content that appears in the feed alongside the agency’s posts.

License to Use

By participating on an official social media account, you grant the DNR and its affiliates, officers, employees, consultants, and representatives a worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, adapt, copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, translate, and reformat any content you share, submit, comment on or post in any existing or future media. You additionally agree that the DNR may publish or otherwise disclose your name or username in connection with your content.
