Alvwood-Squaw Lake Trail

Alvwood-Squaw Lake Trail

This 159 mile trail shares road shoulders and right-of-way to make a scenic tour through Bowstring State Forest and the Chippewa National Forest. Enjoy the ride through forests of Aspen and Pine, view of lakes and many streams, and cross the longest ATV trail boardwalk in Itasca County. This trail connects to the Island Lake Connection Trail to the Blue Ox Trail. Please note that there are no vault toilets or porta-potties any time of year for this trail. This trail is provided by Itasca County and maintained by the Alvwood-Squaw Lake ATV Club.

Winter Use: Trail is open to winter ATV riding until March 15. ATVs are not allowed on groomed snowmobile trails after December 1. In winter most of the trail itself is on plowed roads that are shared with road vehicles but any other sections not groomed are open for shared usage. The segment on County Road 149 just east of Squaw Lake runs parallel for half a mile with the Avenue of the Pines Snowmobile Trail. ATVs are on the County Road and the snowmobiles are in the ditch on the south side of the road.
