Water: Water is OFF in the campground.
Drinking Water: Water is available year-around at the park office and seasonally in the campground and day use area.
Bathroom Facilities: Flush toilets are available at McCarthy Beach from mid-May through Labor Day weekend. Vault toilets are available year-round. Flush toilets are available at the Side Lake campground mid-May through mid-October depending on weather. Beatrice Lake campground has vault toilets year-round.
Showers: Open from mid-May through mid-October, depending on weather.
Dump Station: Dump station will be closing Oct. 17th for the season.
Campgrounds: Winter camping is no longer available at McCarthy Beach. The campground closes in late November and reopens April 1st (or later if there is still snow on the ground).
Electric Sites: The park has 21 electric sites. These typically book a year in advance for the peak summer season.
Special Notes for RV Campers: The campgrounds have narrow roads with sharp turns; may not be suitable for some large RVs or trailers.
Contact Notes: October through mid-May the office will be occasionally open as available.
Trail Notes: McCarthy Beach has 18 miles of hiking trails, 17 miles of mountain bike trails and 12 miles of horse trails. The park has 9 miles of groomed cross-country trails and 12 miles of groomed snowmobile trails available in the winter. The park snowmobile trails connect to the Taconite State Trail and the Tim Corey trail. Non-heated trail shelters are available. Snowshoeing is permitted anywhere in the park, but snowshoers are asked to stay off of ski tracks on the ski trail system.
Season Rentals: The park rents canoes, kayaks, and row boats for $15/4 hrs or $25/day. A paddle boat is available to rent for $10 per hour. Two stand-up paddleboards are available to rent for $10 per hour. Rental season is Memorial Day to Labor Day. The picnic shelter in the park can be rented for $45/day. Call the park to reserve. No winter rentals at this park.
Naturalist Programs and Park Tours: Birding Watching Basics! June 10, 2017. 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. : Bird Watching is becoming one of the most popular outdoor activities in the United States. It can be a great way to learn about your local birds, or to simply figure out what that odd bird call is! McCarthy Beach State Park has an amazingly diverse set of species and is a truly wonderful place to find many of the birds that some folks rarely have the chance to see! On this hike, we will learn about the basics of birdwatching. We will learn about binoculars, field guides, how to ID the tricky species, and find a few birds all the while enjoying an easy morning hike. Please bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them. Join us after the hike at the picnic shelter for a free hot dog roast.
