Water: Campground water will be turned on by May 20th.
Drinking Water: Water is available year-around at the park office and seasonally in the campground and day use area.
Bathroom Facilities: The old campground bathroom building was torn down last fall. The new building is scheduled to open on May 20th. Vault toilets in the park are available year-round.
Showers: The new shower building is scheduled to open May 20th.
Dump Station: The dump station usually opens in mid-May.
Campgrounds: Winter camping is no longer available at McCarthy Beach. The campgrounds reopen on April 1st or when the snow melts. Please check with park staff regarding snow conditions if planning a spring trip.
Electric Sites: The park has 21 electric sites. These typically book a year in advance for the peak summer season.
Special Notes for RV Campers: The campground has narrow roads with sharp turns; may not be suitable for some large RVs.
Reservations: Highly recommended during the summer. All sites are first-come, first-served during late fall and spring.
Contact Notes: There are no regular office hours in the off season, but the office will be open when staff is available. If you leave a message at 218-254-7979 we can arrange a time to meet you. Mornings are the best time to reach us by phone.
Trail Notes: McCarthy Beach has 18 miles of hiking trails, 17 miles of mountain bike trails and 12 miles of horse trails. The park has 9 miles of cross-country trails and 12 miles of groomed snowmobile trails available in the winter. The park snowmobile trails connect to the Taconite State Trail and the Tim Corey trail. Non-heated trail shelters are available. Snowshoeing is permitted anywhere in the park except on groomed ski trails.
Season Rentals: The park rents canoes, kayaks, and row boats for $15/4 hrs or $25/day. A paddle boat is available to rent for $5 per hour with a $10 minimum. Two stand-up paddleboards are available to rent for $10 per hour. Rental season is Memorial Day to Labor Day. The picnic shelter in the park can be rented for $35/day in 2014 and $45/day in 2015. Call the park to reserve. No winter rentals at this park.
