Where to go: Fall color enthusiasts will not want to miss Miners Mountain Overlook for views from 200 feet above the surrounding area. The overlook can be accessed by vehicle or bike. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MINERS MOUNTAIN OVERLOOK IS CLOSED TO CONSTRUCTION UNTIL MID TO LATE SEPTEMBER. CHECK THE PARK WEBSITE FOR UPDATES. There are numerous scenic overlooks along both the paved Cuyuna Lakes State Trail and the mountain bike trail system. Fall color viewing by boat, canoe or kayak is a perfect way to explore the crystal clear mine lakes.

What you'll see: Not a lot of fall color in the CCSRA yet, but when when we are at our peak, expect to see lots of yellow and golds. We are starting to see small patches of yellows and golds from Cottonwoods, Aspen, and Birch.

Also of interest: For those who want to do some hiking away from the paved trail, the Sagamore Unit is the place to go. The winter mountain bike trails in the Sagamore Unit offer 10 miles of hiking in the summer. The trails were just mowed, and they are ready for some fall color hiking! Highway 210 between the CCSRA and Brainerd is dotted with beautiful, blaze orange and red maples.

Special Offer for Park Permits

Canít decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
