Where to go: The Hiking Club Trail offers a variety of color opportunities. On the Overlook Trail, brightly colored Maples dot the hillside.
What you'll see: Sugar maples are at a blazing peak now ranging from yellow to bright orange. Other trees are also at peak color including white ash (purple), hackberry, walnut, and hickory (yellow). Smaller trees and shrubs are also colorful, including sumac (orange toned), dogwoods (purple), and blue beech (peach). Most oak trees are still green.
A few wildflowers can still be found including sunflowers like sneeze weed (yellow) and asters ranging from white to lavender to deep purple.

Canít decide between a one-day or year-round park permit? The DNR has a special offer that can help. Start by purchasing a one-day permit for $5 and visit as many state parks as possible. After visiting the state parks, trade in the one-day permit by the end of that day and get $5 off the purchase of a year-round permit. Year-round permits, which cost $25, provide unlimited access to all 76 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas for a full year from the month of purchase.
