What is environmental education?

The term, "environmental education external link," (EE) has lots of meanings. It's tough to nail down just one, so here are some ways to look at it:

  1. photo: group of student showing off their workEE can teach about the environment. Environmental concepts include lifecycles, weather, and patterns in nature, among others.
  2. EE can teach with the environment. EE methods are hands-on and incorporate interdisciplinary learning as means to inspiring positive environmental behaviors.
  3. Finally, EE is place-based, which means it can use the environment to teach a concept. EE uses real-life materials, objects, and situations, and EE can take place in the classroom or out.

Project Learning Tree, Project WET and Project WILD educational programs can all help you to bring EE into your classroom.
