Long Lake

Location:

This lake is located in the northeast corner of the intersection of I-694 and Highway 36. 

Species Present:

Northern Pike: lower than average abundance, average size
Largemouth Bass: lower than average abundance, average size
Bluegill: average abundance, smaller than average size
Crappie: average abundance, smaller than average size
Bullhead species: above average abundance, smaller than average size
Yellow perch: above average abundance, average size.

 

Boat Access:

There is no developed boat access to this lake. Small boats or canoes may be carried in off City of Mahtomedi property on the north end of the lake. This site is very steep: use caution. 

Shore Fishing:

The City of Mahtomedi owns property on the north end of the lake, but fishing is limited by heavy vegetation growth for most of the year. 

Management Plans:

  1. Monitor winter oxygen levels as needed.
  2. Population assessment/lake survey as needed, if staff is available.
  3. Encourage Mahtomedi or Pine Springs to develop public access to this lake. 

Aquatic Invasive Species Alert:

This lake contains Eurasian watermilfoil. Remove any visible plants from your boat, trailer, or other boating equipment before leaving the lake. 

Comments:

Access to this area is limited to undeveloped City of Mahtomedi property on the north shore of the lake. Water quality here is fair at best. The lake has been know to have summer oxygen depletion and winterkill.
